Pick 8: Milwaukee Bucks - 0.5 1Q Spread (-115)
The Celtics have been actually terrible in the first quarter throughout the entirety of the year. They’re notoriously slow starters.
Celtics are 32-42 ATS in the 1st this season. They’re 3-7 in their last 10 while logging some abysmal 1Q number against bad teams in that stretch. They’ve lost straight up in the 1st in each of their last two games. Those games were against the Wizards (with their entire team injured) and the Spurs.
In the last 10 games the Celtics have also: Lost straight up in the first quarter to the Rockets (!!!), Kings, and Hawks.
Failed to cover vs the Pacers and Timberwolves.
So, that leaves us with the three games that the Celtics actually have managed to cover the 1Q spread in the last 10. Those were against the Jazz (Jazz ended up winning lol) and twice against Portland. Both of these teams have literally openly given up on the season and are not trying to win games.
Meanwhile, the Bucks are the best team in the league right now and are the 3rd best in 1Q ATS.
They’re 43-30-2 on the season and they’re 5-3-2 in their last 10. Although their last 10 games 1Q ATS record is “eh”, it’s important to note that they are 8-0 straight up in the 1st in their last 8 games, and they’ve only lost straight up 2 times in their last 10. One was on the road vs Warriors, and the other was on the road vs the Kings. Pretty tough matchups there. However, the Bucks have logged big time straight up wins vs Phoenix and Denver, both on the road, in their last 10.
I do have the Celtics +3.5 for the full game here, but I don’t see them all-of-the-sudden going off in the 1st quarter on the road vs a healthy Milwaukee lineup. Additionally, all we need is 1 point here. The Bucks should easily cover this. I’d play it to -1.5.
