Pick#9: Marcus Stroman(CHC) over 4.5 strikeouts (-146)
I grabbed this on DK for -155 this morning. I was about to post it with the current DK odds(-185) but shoutout to IcebergSlim24 in the Pine discord MLB-chat. He pointed out that FanDuel has it at -146 at the time of posting. I tried all day to find a reason why I didn't like this bet but, I couldn't. The only argument I can find against this was "Well, he can't keep that up." But I think he can.
Stroman has made five starts on the year and has picked up 30 Ks, an average of 6/game. He's done that against MIL, TEX, OAK, SEA and LAD. Of those, only Seattle and LAD have a higher K/game rate than Miami. Stroman's strikeout totals have been 8, 6, 6, 5, 5. So, he's consistently gone over this line against better hitting teams. Not only that but looking a just the last three games, Miami has been struggling at the plate in terms of Ks. They are top 4(or bottom 4 depending on how you look at it) in K/game over their L3, striking out 10.66/game. That number doesn't even include the 13 Ks Spencer Strider rung up against them four games ago. They had a 14 K night last night so, they seem to be reeling a bit right now. To add salt to the wound, their BA drops .069 points when facing RHP. Miami hits .299 against LHP but only .230 against RHP. Advantage Stroman.
The PineBot likes it a lot, projecting another 6+ strikeout night from Stroman. He's hit this line in 9 of his L10 dating back to last year. Lock it in.
