Thomas has been going back to his shot chucking ways, putting up 27 and 22 field goal attempts in his last two games, and now he gets a pace boost matchup against the Lakers. The Lakers are top 5 in pace not only on the season but in the last 10 games as well, showing that they will try to use it to their advantage. The Nets do not play at a fast pace without Ben Simmons as they are ranked with the 7th slowest pace in the past 10 games. Against the top 15 teams in terms of pace on the season, Thomas has gone over this prop in 10 of 16 games this season while playing 30+ minutes (which he has done in 10 straight games). When you factor in how he has managed to take 17+ field goal attempts in 8 of his last 10 games, against the top 15 paced teams playing 30+ minutes and taking 17+ field goal attempts, he’s gone over this prop in 9 of 12 games. The Lakers would like to have Davis control the paint with more of a drop coverage look, which will allow for a lot of pullup field goals. The Lakers are allowing the 7th highest pullup frequency in the last 10 games with the 5th most pullup field goals made. The player defending the ball handler is focused on going over screens to try and limit pullup threes, while also trying to force you to go to the rim where Davis is waiting, but with the drop coverage, this has allowed for a lot of pullup two’s. The Lakers are allowing the 5th most pullup two’s in the past 10 games and Thomas is averaging 7.5 attempts per game on pullup two’s in his last 8 games. Speaking of Anthony Davis, he is not a good three-point shooter and likes to work the paint area when he scores, which should allow Nic Claxton to sit in the paint all game racking up rebound chances. The last time these two teams played, he racked up 23 rebound chances. Just like how Davis plays defense, sitting in the paint, Claxton will be doing the same. In Claxton’s last 10 games, 31% of his rebounds have come from offensive rebounds, which the Lakers are allowing the 12th most in the past 10 games as well. Having a non-shooting threat to defend and no Simmons to take rebound chances away is great for us. He’s played 27+ minutes in 8 of his last 10 games and when he does this without Simmons, he’s gone over this prop in 27 of 39 games this season. When you also factor in the top 15 teams in pace of play this season, he’s gone over this prop in 15 of 22 games. The pace of the Lakers should allow for both teams to put up shots and the more shots that go up mean the more rebound chances you’ll have.
