Hello and welcome to a special edition of Down the Stream!

The purpose of this series is to help those streaming the less important fantasy positions but today we’re doing something different. As if managing a fantasy football team in 2021 couldn’t get any harder, Covid has once again reared its ugly head. Dozens of players have been sent to the Covid list including big names like Tyler Lockett, Odell Beckham Jr, Baker Mayfield, and Jaylen Waddle. This along with the already mounting injuries to other big names has made this the hardest fantasy playoff to plan for in recent memory. So in lieu of an article about a specific position, I’ve decided to take a look at the guys who will be benefiting most from the absences of the big names above.

  • WR Jakeem Grant Sr. vs MIN (Season: 11 REC, 132 Yds, 2TD, 3% Owned)

This may seem like a desperation move and, by all means, you kind of have to be desperate to start him. But, there is a chance for a big game here by the former Dolphins wideout. For one, with the absence of Marquise Goodwin due to a foot injury, he’s seen his targets increase from 0 to 4.6 per game over the past three games. With Allen Robinson entering Covid protocol, somebody has to pick up his 21% target share and Grant will have plenty of opportunity to do so as the projected WR2 for the Bears. Not only that but Jakeem also has the upside of being both the kick and punt returner for the Bears, where he has collected over 80 return yards six times this season. As for the Vikings pass defense; just look at the top five teams in passing yards allowed per game.

  • WR Kenny Golladay vs DAL (Season: 28 REC, 424 Yds, 0TD, 51% Owned)

After escaping the clutches of a horrid Detroit Lions team, Golladay has disappointed in his new role as Daniel Jones shiny new toy. In fact, after leading the league in reception TD’s in 2019, he has yet to catch one as a member of the New York Giants. However, there is no better time for Golladay to prove that he was worth the 72 million dollars he signed for this summer than this week. Both Kadarius Toney and John Ross have been placed on the Covid list, thinning what was a deep Giants receiving core. In addition, Sterling Shepard is questionable to suit up leaving Golladay and Darius Slayton as the only two receiving options left. For the record, Slayton has been extremely unreliable as he has only caught 5 of his past 14 targets over the last 3 weeks. With literally nobody else to throw to, Golladay should see huge volume and could get his second 100+ yard game this season.

  • TE David Njoku vs LV (27 REC, 407 Yds, 3TD, 12% Owned)

The Cleveland TE2 has wandered off the Covid-19 list at the perfect time, as no other team has been hit harder by Covid than the Cleveland Browns. Among those hitting the Covid list is star WR Jarvis Landry, and fellow starting TE Austin Hooper. So with two of Cleveland’s best pass catchers out, it appears as though it's time for Njoku to get some more targets. Which makes this the perfect time to let you know that when Njoku has been targeted 5+ times this season, he is averaging 86 yards per game. Not to mention the Las Vegas Raiders have given up the second most Fantasy points to TE’s all year. All in all, with an A+ matchup, solid volume, and the talent to put it all together, Njoku is primed for a big game in a fantasy season where TE’s are hard to come by.
