Fantasy football is the glue of the sports world. No matter where you live, what you believe, or what your favorite team is, you can join millions of others in hoping that a random assortment of players scores more than someone else's. Throughout the season you might find yourself rooting for league superstars like McCaffrey, Mahomes and more. Often, you could be forced to rely on guys who would be after thoughts in regular NFL discussion like Khalil Herbert or Duke Johnson.

For some, a fantasy week might even be the difference between a good and bad Sunday afternoon. Either way, fantasy football gives us another outlet to appreciate and learn about the game we love so much and share it with others. So as the sun sets on yet another Fantasy Season, let's honor those who made or broke your fantasy season. And remember to keep it here at Pine Sports for the Fantasy Analytics you need for the 2022 fantasy season.

Fantasy MVP:  WR Cooper Kupp (138 Receptions, 1,829 Yards, 15 Touchdowns, 412.9 Points)

What do the likes of Randy Moss, Jerry Rice, Marvin Harrison, and Cooper Kupp have in common? Well, they are the only four Wide Receivers to collect 100+ catches, 1,500+ yards and 15+ touchdowns in a single season. With elite company like that, its not shocking that Kupp is the #1 fantasy scorer this season and a perfect fit for MVP. But this wasn't your average MVP season, Cooper had a fantasy season of historic proportions. His 2021 season was the 9th best all time and 6th among non-QB's behind players like Priest Holmes, Christian McCaffrey and of course the great LaDainian Tomlinson. His season wasn't a boom or bust type of year, Kupp remained rock solid every week and only failed to score less than 15 Points once this season. His magnum opus, though, was a 37 point performance in which he caught ten passes for 156 yards and two TD's in week 7. The craziest part of all this? His consensus Average Draft Position was #44, five spots behind fellow Rams WR Robert Woods. Not bad for a WR2 eh? Here's the top five fantasy scorers this season:

Draft Value of the Year Award: WR Deebo Samuel (70 Receptions, 1,247 Rec Yards, 301 Rush Yards, 12 Touchdowns, 227 Points)

When many picked Deebo Samuel, it came with the expectation that Deebo would have to share the ball with the likes of fellow 49ers George Kittle, Raheem Mostert, and Brandon Aiyuk. Such is the reason why Samuel had a consensus ADP in the high eighties. Little did we know that the preseason WR #35 would do it all for San Francisco turn in one of the most dominant seasons of 2021. Samuel finished as the WR #4 and was the third highest per game scorer behind Kupp and Davante Adams. However, Deebo wasn't just your average superstar Wide Receiver. With injuries to the San Francisco running back room mounting, he became a RB1 in the process. He sits now on pace to become the first WR to lead his team in rushing touchdowns. Although he may not have been the highest scorer in 2021, he was electrifying to watch week in and week out. Especially when you consider that he was being taken in the 8th or 9th round on average.

The Down The Stream Waiver Pickup of the Year: RB Cordarrelle Patterson (51 Receptions, 1,154 Yards, 11 Touchdowns, 232 Points)

It was the year of the hybrid player and no better player represented this trend than Falcons RB Cordarrelle Patterson. Poised to backup Week 1 starter Mike Davis, Patterson went undrafted in a majority of leagues. But he turned heads after a Week 2 that saw him put up 23 points against a tough Tampa Bay defense. From that point on he became a borderline RB1 as he collected 51 receptions, 6th most by a Running back this season. He lined up wide, he rushed up the gut, and did so much more as he swiss army knifed his way into the starting lineups of many fantasy teams. A big congratulations who took a chance on this diamond in the rough and ended up with a weekly fantasy starter.

Fantasy Performance of the Year: Week 17 Ja'Marr Chase (11 Receptions, 266 Yards, 3 Touchdowns, 55.6 Points)

It's no secret that the best performances come when the lights shine brightest, and that was especially true for Bengals Rookie WR Ja'Marr Chase on Championship Weekend. While a regular season matchup against the Chiefs is a normal day at the office for the Rookie Wideout, for many fantasy owners it was akin to the Super Bowl. By god, did Chase deliver though with the highest scoring fantasy performance of the season. He finished with 55.6 points, a mere 4 points away from the record 59.5 fantasy points achieved by Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles in 2013. It's the most ever scored by a rookie in fantasy and ranks 5th all time. He dazzled with three touchdowns, including a monster 72 yard TD reception, as he smashed Justin Jefferson's record for most Rec. Yards by a Rookie WR. Ja'Marr's big game made for a happy start to 2022 for many fantasy owners.

All in all, 2021 was a memorable year for Fantasy Football and one that was nearly impossible to predict from week to week. It was filled with highs like Johnathan Taylor's sophomore MVP campaign and lows like the disappearance of Allen Robinson II. We saw the rise of new faces like Ja'Marr Chase and Najee Harris and the resurgence of old ones like Cordarrelle Patterson and Joe Mixon. We hope that you join us next season for continued fantasy analysis and the most up to date models here at Pine Sports.
