Alexis Lafreniere 2+ Shots on Goal +114

The Rangers are coming back home in a pivotal game 5 and this bodes well for…. the Rangers as a whole. They are 8-1 this post season in Madison Square Garden with the one loss being in the first game of the playoffs to the Penguins. One of the highlights of this Rangers team is the play of their younger guys, also known as,” The Kid Line”; made up of Filip Chytil, Kaapo Kakko, and Alexis Lafreniere. They are all high draft picks and range from 20-22 years old with Lafreniere being the youngest and highest touted (No. 1 overall pick in 2020 draft). Lafreniere has hit this in 2 of 4 games this series and 4/9 at home this post season. I’m of the believe that if the Rangers want to pull off the upset, they’re going to need their young guys to bring energy their few minutes on the ice and the level of comfort increases in front of your home crowd. Through the first 3 games of the series, Lafreniere leads the team with a xGF% of 65.37% at 5 v 5, but the problem is he’s only seen ~10min of 5v5 time in this series. It’s difficult for a coach to rely on youth this deep in the playoffs, but Gallant may need to buck the trend and give the kids a few more minutes on the ice. They are a matchup nightmare for most teams 3rd and 4th lines and coming off a shutout loss in Game 3 and a 1 score loss in Game 4, we should see more from the youth movement in New York.
