Tonight the Oakland Athletics are sending Paul Blackburn to the mound to take on the New York Yankees, the Yankees will be countering with lefty Jordan Montgomery. This is sure to be a quality matchup on the mound, I have a play on the total on this game that I am going to breakdown.

The Athletics have been struggling against LHP this year, they rank 28th in team Batting Average, 26th in wRC+ and 22nd in Hard Hit%. Montgomery isn't a guy that is going to get himself in trouble he ranks in the top 6% of pitchers in BB%. On top of that he doesn't get hit hard, ranking in the 77th percentile in HH%. So far this season Montgomery is 3-1 w/ a 2.97 ERA & 1.02 WHIP, I like him to continue that success tonight.

On the other side, The Yankees will be facing RHP Paul Blackburn who is also carrying a 2.97 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP. Blackburn is also a guy who excels at hitting the strike zone and limiting free passes. The New York Yankees offence is dominant, but cant is very patient. The Yankees see the third most pitches per plate appearance, and take the 7th most strikeouts looking.

Blackburn can work his sinker to both sides of the plate, I think he can keep this powerful Yankees team off balance tonight.
