Aaron Ashby 5+ K’s/Josh Rojas 1+ Hit -118 (-104)

Aaron Ashby is definitely one of my favorite strikeout targets on today's slate. The Pirates are a young scrappy team that strikes out alot, but especially against left handed pitchers. While I’m a fan of this young team, and high upside prospects like Oniel Cruz, they struggle against lefties. Over the last 30 games, the Pirates possess a 29% strikeout rate against left handed batters, which is insane. Ashby has been inconsistent this season, but the strikeouts have been consistent, recording 5+ K’s in 4 of their last 5 outings. His one miss was against a hot Washington team where he had a blowup start against a team that doesn't K much.

Picking a batter in this Dallas Keuchel vs Austin Gomber is hard. These are two of the best pitchers to fade in the MLB, and of course it takes place in Coors field. I ended up going with Josh Rojas because of his reasonable odds at -270, and his past success against Gomber. Gomber is someone who has struggled a lot this season, and has even been pushed into the bullpen at times. Rojas is 4-5 in his career against Gomber, and should be in a good spot to keep that going. In game one of this series, Rojas went 3-4 with 2 doubles, lets carry that momentum into today.
