Ryan Mountcastle has been on an absolute heater since June. Batting .312, and also adding 8 homers and 20 RBI's to his slash line. In 11 July at bats, he has a homer, 3 doubles and hit his total base prop in all 3 games. A metric I love to use when batters are rolling like this is their WRC+. During June we saw Ryan's jump from 112 to 168, and over these first 3 July games, an absurd 320 wRC+. Ryan is now top 3% in the MLB in XBA, XWOBA and hard hit percentage. All that means is, he hits the ball pretty hard.
Matchup: Dane Dunning is throwing for the Texas Rangers today and he has been very hittable on the road this season. In his road starts this season, Dunning is rocking a .305 batting average allowed, 4.58 FIP and over a 1.7 WHIP. Mountcastle has a 52.8% hard hit rate so far this year, Strikeouts have been his only issue, but against Dunning he doesn't have to worry about that as much. Dunning only strikes out 17% of batters on the road and .351 batting average on balls in play. We have a guy who doesn't miss many bats, versus a guy who hits the ball hard over 50% of time and mid 80s weather... sign me up for some Mountcastle shares today!
