Anthony Davis is on a run we haven't seen in a very long time. Averaging 15.4 rebounds and 34.2 points per game over his last 10 games, Davis has dominated even top teams like Bucks and Suns on this run. Davis now has moved into third place in the NBA in terms of rebounding chances with 19.5 chances per game. Lakers have won 7 of their last 9, and most of that being on the back of Davis. The Lakers now realize that they have to feature AD and allow him to be the alpha on a team of stars. Though the matchup is tough, I expect AD to continue to put up numbers.
Davis matches up with the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight. This is a tough matchup offensively, but I think the bigs they will be throwing at Davis will allow him to work exclusively in the paint. Davis ranks second now in the NBA in paint points,18.1 per game. With Allen hopefully coming back tonight, Davis will be in a prime spot to grab boards. Allen ranks 7th in the NBA in rebounding chances and actually grabs rebounds at the same distance from the rim as Davis, only 4.4 feet. Cleveland does rank in the top 5 in points allowed in the paint, but much of that is Allen's presence. With or without Allen out there, Davis will be crashing the boards and continuing this torrid pace of points and rebounds.
One thing I want to make sure I mention. I think Allen suits up tonight, but if for some reason he doesn't, I will be playing points + rebounds as a play too. Mobley will not be able to handle Davis, and Lamar Stevens I KNOW can't stop Davis from getting whatever he wants.
